A short drive west of Otaru, the Shakotan Peninsula is famous for its dramatic cliffs, turquoise water and quiet fishing villages.

A highlight is the historic Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery, where visitors can learn about the origins of Japanese whisky and enjoy tastings.
During summer, fruit farms around Yoichi also offer seasonal fruit picking.
After a day on the water or exploring the coast, there are several good hot springs in the area.
